1. TOMS was accidentally killed near Laventie. 2. KANE was killed when he lost control of a Bleriot Parasol aircraft which crashed into the ground at Brooklands Aerodrome. 3. WEEKS, on his way Gallipoli, was lost with the troopship HMT Royal Edward when it was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean Sea off Kandeloussa, with the loss of 935 of the 1,596 people on board. 4. OLIVER was wounded west of the Hohenzollern Redoubt, near Loos, on 13th October 1915. 5. CADELL was wounded at the Belgian Chateau, south-west of Ypres on 19th February 1916. 6. EARDLEY-WILMOT was detached from 9th Battalion. He was wounded near Fricourt on 10th March 1916. 7. GREGORY was taken POW at the surrender of Kut-el-Amara on 29th April 1916. He died of enteritis on 3rd May 1917 at a Turkish POW Camp at Mosul. 8. GIBSON was killed piloting a BE2c aircraft which crashed on take-off on a reconnaissance flight at the le Bellevue aerodrome near Warlincourt. His observer, Lt F S Roodley survived the crash but was severely wounded. 9. CLOUGH was killed by a shell on the St Jean road, northeast of Ypres on 27th June 1916. 10. BALDERSON was originally buried in a battlefield grave near to the junction of the railway line and the road to the west of Pozieres and reburied in Pozieres British Cemetery in August 1920. 11. PRITCHARD was wounded north-east of "Wick Salient", to the northwest of Fromelles on 19th July 1916 and evacuated to the UK. 13. PHILLIPS was originally commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial until his grave was discovered in the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery in 1930. 14. BOLITHO was originally buried in a battlefield grave to the east of Puisieux, north of Miraumont and reburied at Bucquoy in October 1920. During a bombing expedition over the German lines his machine, a BE2c piloted by 2Lt S H Williams, was brought down and both were killed. 15. CLARK was originally buried in a battlefield grave to the southeast of Fayet and was reburied at Holnon in July 1919. 16. CARTER joined 7th Infantry Labour Company Devon Regt in late March 1917 which became 172nd Company Labour Corps in April 1917. He transferred to the Labour Corps on 9th March 1917 (LG 30007 dated 2nd April 1917, page 3190). 17. TREMLETT was wounded during the battle of Bullecourt on 23rd May 1917. 18. BURR previously served with 13th (Works) Battalion Devonshire Regiment which became 3rd Battalion Labour Corps in February 1917. 19. CORBISHLEY was killed in aerial action during a reconnaissance expedition over the German lines. His machine, a DH4 piloted by 2Lt H W B Rickards, was brought down and both were killed. 20. LEY was originally buried in a battlefield grave to the southeast of Zillebeke and was reburied at Poelcapelle British Cemetery in October 1923. 21. COTTLE was originally buried in a battlefield grave east of "Rifle Farm" near Hooge and reburied at Birr Cross Roads Cemetery in June 1919. 22. FLEMING was originally buried in Ledeghem German Military Cemetery and was reburied at Harlebeke in July 1924. He was killed in aerial action during a fighting patrol over the German lines when his machine, a SE5, was brought down. 23. DRAKE was wounded near Westhoek on16th August 1917. 24. HOUNSOM was commissioned into 13th Labour Battalion on 27th February 1917 and died after a short illness. 25. BRAGG was wounded to the north of Frezenberg on 20th September 1917. 26. SCARBROUGH was wounded to the southwest of Gaza on 1st November 1917. 27. JACOB was originally buried in Flesquieres Chateau Cemetery and reburied in Orival Wood Cemetery in April 1930. 28. WINNICOTT transferred to the RFC in August 1916 and became an "Ace" with 15 confirmed kills before his death in aerial action near Albert in late 1917. 29. LIARDET was seconded to the RFC as a Balloon Officer. He died of septic infection of wounds sustained at TBC. 30. GRIGSON was originally buried in a battlefield grave near Jonchery, southeast of Soissons, and was reburied at Marfaux British Cemetery in September 1919. 31. BELLAMY was wounded at Remy Wood, south of Peronne on 1st September 1918. 32. JONES was originally buried by the Germans in this Blankenberge Cemetery and was reburied here in another plot in June 1920. He was killed when his Sopwith Camel fighter aircraft was brought down in air combat by a German aircraft. 33. VINNICOMBE was detached from the 2nd Battalion to the General Staff Railway Transportation Staff. He died of influenza/pneumonia. 34. BARNETT was wounded at Catillon, River Sambre, on 4th November 1918. 25. COLE died of TBC. 36. SANFORD died of influenza/pneumonia and was initially buried in Plot A.1 of Tourlaville Communal Cemetery Extension, until reburied in Plot C.8 in August 1934. 37. STANLEY died of influenza/pneumonia. 38. THORNHILL died of diphtheria. 39. EDMONDS was on the General Staff as an Embarkation Officer at Liverpool Docks until 22nd April 1918 when he may well have been placed on the Sick List. He died on 19th May 1919 of disease contracted in Mesopotamia serving with 1/6th Battalion.
40. HUGHES was a member of a rifle company of volunteers of the Devonshire
Regiment to join the 1st Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light
Infantry in May 1919 to reinforce the Allied Expeditionary Force
despatched to 41. PINE-COFFIN was detached from 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Devonshire Regiment to the Intelligence Corps for duty in the North Russia Campaign. 42. SALMON was an Assistant Political Officer serving on the Special List. He was killed during the uprising of the Dalw tribe in Kifri, part of the Great Iraqi Revolution. 43. MILLS was an Assistant Political Officer serving on the Special List. He was murdered TBC. |
