1. PICTON-WARLOW was piloting his aircraft, a Bleriot 2-seater monoplane, from St Omer to Dover and was last seen flying over Calais. 2. LOMAX was wounded northeast of Fromelles on 9th May 1915. 3. EYRE was wounded at Gully Beach, Gallipoli on 6th August 1915 and evacuated to 19th General Hospital, Alexandria. 4. WAVELL was killed in British East Africa what is known now as Kenya. 5. LATHAM died of ? (WO 339/55279) 6. SMITH was the 114th Brigade Bombing Officer. He was killed by "friendly fire". 7. HYLAND served with 20th (Service) Battalion (3rd Rhondda) before secondment to MGC. 8. VAUGHAN-LEWES was seriously injured when his aircraft, a FE2b, crashed on landing whilst on a training mission on 15th July 1916, after being hit ground fire near Ypres which destroyed the landing gear. 9. STANYON was wounded near Longueval, Somme on 20th July 1916. 10. FORTUNE was detached from 3/6th Battalion Welsh Regiment. 132nd Coy MGC was part of 3rd (Lahore) Division, Indian Army. 11. GROSSART was undergoing training when his aircraft, a BE2c, entered a spinning nose dive and crashed in a field near Beverley 12. BROWN was piloting a Martinsyde G100/102 during a training flight and collided in mid-air with a BE2e piloted by Lt G Wilson, who survived. 13. PICKARD was wounded on 1st March 1917 east of Beaumont-Hamel, Somme. 14. GRIFFITHS was an observer in Armstrong Whitworth FK8 with 2Lt E R Bottomley on a reconnaissance mission when it was shot down and both airmen were killed. 15. BOND was piloting an RE8 aircraft during a training flight on 15th June 1917 which broke up in mid air and crashed to the ground. 16. DOWNING was piloting an BE2c aircraft during a training flight which stalled in mid air and crashed to the ground. 17. ANGUS was accidentally drowned whilst swimming in the River Lys. 18. THOMAS was originally buried in a battlefield grave northeast of Shrewsbury Wood, south of Hooge, and reburied in Hooge Crater Cemetery in May 1919. 19. ROBERTS was wounded at ? (WO 339/21981). 20. HUGHES was on a reconnaissance mission with Lt C Raynor in a FE2b when it was shot down and both were killed. 21. CAUNTER was piloting a SE5 during a fighting patrol when he was shot down and killed. 22. DICKINSON died suddenly of ?. He was a previous Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion. 23. BLAKE died of dysentery - most probably contracted whilst serving with 1/4th Battalion in Gallipoli or Egypt. 24. DAVIES was wounded at Bourlon Wood, near Cambrai on 25th November 1917. 25. TREMELLEN died of TB. He had seen active service in Gallipoli and France before being wounded and becoming ill, returning to UK to take a training role at Kinmel Park Camp. (WO 374/69444). 26. SAUNDERS was piloting a FK8 during a training flight when the aircraft stalled and crashed into the ground. 27. THOMAS was piloting a Avro 504A aircraft during a training flight when it stalled whilst turning and crashed into the ground. 28. WILLIAMS was piloting an RE8 on a reconnaissance mission on 2nd April 1918 when near the aerodrome it crashed to the ground and burst into flames. He was severely burnt and died on 7th April 1918. 29. BROOM was killed in Portuguese East Africa, now known as Mozambique. 30. COOPER was wounded near Laventie on 9th April 1918. 31. SULLIVAN was wounded near Albert on 19th April 1918. 32. MORGAN was killed when his aircraft, SE5a serial C5342 crashed just after take-off. He was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps (later the RAF) on 15th March 1917. 33. SHUREY was accidentally killed during grenade training in a premature explosion. He had previously seen active service with 16th Battalion Welsh Regiment and was wounded and returned to the UK in 1916. (WO 339/29657). 34. WATKINS was an observer on a Bristol F2b fighter during offensive patrol piloted by Lt V D Fernald which was last seen flying east past Belluno on the River Piave. The crashed aircraft and dead airmen were found at San Fior, north of Tezze. 35. STREET was piloting a RE8 during a training flight when it crashed into the ground at the aerodrome and burst into flames. He had previously served with 2/7th (Cyclist) Battalion Welsh Regiment. 36. MORGAN was originally buried in a battlefield grave to the northeast of Le Catelet and was reburied at Prospect Hill Cemetery in October 1919. 37. WILLIAMS was originally buried in a battlefield grave to the west of Menin and reburied at Dadizeele New British Cemetery in October 1919. 38. GRIFFITHS was the observer of an RE8 on a reconnaissance mission with Lt G Whitehead when it was shot down by ground fire and both were killed. They were initially buried in Lauwe German Cemetery and reburied at Harlebeke New British Cemetery in 1920. 39. SAMPSON died of influenza/pneumonia. 40. SUMSION was piloting a Bristol F2b fighter on patrol with Lt W G Walford when it was brought down by unknown means killing both airmen. 41. WILLIAMS most probably died of influenza/pneumonia. Serving with the Northern Rhodesia Rifles. (WO 339/12001). 42. TOLLER died of influenza/pneumonia. 43. JENKINS was serving with the Special List as a Musketry Instructor. He died of influenza/pneumonia. 44. HARRIS died of influenza/pneumonia. 45. WALKER died of ? 46. THOMAS died of ? He was an Area Works Manager stationed in Constantinople. (WO 339/23199). |
