Notes: 1. HADINGHAM initially reported missing on 22nd June 1916. 2. MOORE was accidentally wounded during a training exercise at Riez Bailleul near Laventie on 29th June 1916. 3. HANNAM was wounded during a raid on the German trenches opposite Fauquissart, south east of Laventie on 5th July 1916. 4. JAMES should properly be commemorated on the Loos Memorial. 5. SCRASE should properly be commemorated on the Loos Memorial. 6. OWEN was wounded at Neuve Chapelle, south of Laventie on 17th October 1916. |
Battalion History |
Formed at Bristol as the Second Line of the 4th Battalion in September 1914. Full Title - 2/4th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (Territorial Force). Assigned to 183rd Infantry Brigade, 61st (2nd South Midland) Division in January 1915. Arrived with the BEF in France on 25th May 1916.
Served in France and Flanders throughout the war (Fauquissart, Somme, Peronne, St Quentin, Ypres, Arras, Cambrai).
4 Battle Honours, earned at: France and Flanders 1915 - 1918, Ypres 1917, Langemarck 1917, Cambrai 1917.
The Battalion disbanded on 20th February 1918, personnel beinmg transferred to 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and the 24th Entrenching Battalion. |
